​SAGINAW GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
A Code of Ethics & Conduct

Filled out yearly,
​By everyone in the SGS who handles monies

I. PURPOSE
This code of Professional Ethics and Conduct ensures a uniform adherence to this Societies longstanding policies related to legal, moral and professional standards of conduct. This code also informs the public at large as to how the society approaches matters involving ethics. The principles set forth in this code will serve to govern the conduct of all board members of the Saginaw Genealogical Society who handle monies.

II. FIDUCIARY RESPONSIBILITY
The SGS Board Member who signs this form will exercise prudence and integrity in the management of funds in their custody and in all financial transactions for which they are responsible for and will maintain the safety of monies, ledgers, and all Treasurer documents placed in their trust for which they are responsible for, producing them before the board or for a request for an Audit.

III. RESPONSIBILITY AS SOCIETY OFFICIALS
The member will adhere to concepts of effective and efficient service which is being provided for elected and certain appointed board members of this society. The member undesigned will conduct themselves at all times in a manner which serves the public interest and enhances the sature of the elected profession. The member will uphold the letter and the spirit of the law, and report violations of the law to the appropriate authorities.

IV. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Member will observe professional technical standards and continually strive to acquire both knowledge and levels of competency in their elected field be it Treasury Management, Secretarial skills or Presidential Leadership. Members will set a good example and encourage colleagues seeking to enter the field of Genealogy.

V. PROFESSIONAL INTEGRITY INFORMATION
The Member will respect and protect all privileged information. They will not disclose said information, unless identified government officials produce a legal document requiring this to be done. When term of offic has expired, or member must leave a position for health or personal reasons they will turn over ALL documents,
ledgers, passwords and accounts to the President of the Society.

VI. PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Each Board member will maintain the highest ideals of honor, integrity and objectivity in all professional relationships.

VII. CONFLICT OF INTEREST
The undersigned SGS Board Member will not seek any favor or accept any personal gains which would influence or appear to influence the objectivity or conduct of official duties.

VIII. MEMBER MISCONDUCT
The SGS Society will not accept or condone the unethical conduct of ANY board member under any circumstance. A board member found to be in violation of any provision of this Code of Ethics and Conduct will be expelled immediately, for a length of time to be determined by the Board of Officers and Directors.
