MEMBERS LIST of ELECTED, APPOINTED AND GENERAL  POSITIONS

THE SGS BOARD

PRESIDENT

Required Position: Presidents are like the 'brain' of the organization. They are the common bond between the BOARD and the MEMBERS.  They will give their all to both; to try to help members to learn more, and is a leader who will strive to find innovative and creative ways to utilize new ideas in recording family history, to bring to the members. Required position for the society to be a tax free 501c3

SECRETARY

Secretaries are the backbone of any organization. They help to strengthen the society by keeping to keep well organized records, correspondence and meeting notes. They are absolutely necessary in the day to day function of a society in order that it may run well, and without error. They will also be a name on the bank records, and hold a debit card from the same, and may be able to help the Treasurer at times. ​Required position for the society to be a tax free 501c3

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Directors are made up from 3 places: 1. Either past Presidents may serve, or 2. They can be appointed by the current President, or 3. They may be elected by the voting membership. There shall always be three Directors on the Board. They need to attend a minimum of 3 MGC meetings a year, (to either share at the next SGS meetings or to pass that information on to the Web Administrator to post online.  They may share that task among themselves, of attending the MGC meetings, (either online or in person).  MGC meetings, may be agreed upon by the Directors if they cannot each take one meeting per year. They decide this amongst themselves, but report the decision to the President. If they have been appointed, they shall stay in office for at least 3 years, and the same, if voted in. If a past President, they shall stay for at least one year.  The Directors may choose to also stay in office for as long as they like. Or if due to poor health or moving, they may notify the Board of Officers of their intentions to leave, but they shall stay on the SGS roll as Directors until the voting month of May, or unless the President appoints a replacement until voting time. In the event of the sudden departure of any Elected official, one of the Directors may temporarily take that position on, until the next upcoming election. 

VICE PRESIDENT

Vice Presidents are the 'safety net' of the President. If for any reason the President cannot perform their duties, the VP may be called upon to temporarily fill in for them. They may also be called to positions of leadership for their research or completion of special projects as directed by the President. This is ​NOT a mandatory position according to the bank and the state of Michigan, for a non-profit to be viable.

TREASURER

Treasurers, if the President the brain, and the Secretary is the backbone, then the Treasurer is the lifeforce or the blood of the society. The Treasurer ensures that all bank statements are up to date, read before all the members and that every penny is accounted for. They keep track of all expenditures, memberships and incoming monies.  And may be responsible for recording all the contact information of the members.

APPOINTED POSITIONS

These positions are comprised of at least THREE positions, possibly FOUR:
  • The Editor of the TTL publishes the newsletter 4x yearly, and ensures that paid memberships, requested to receive mailed TTL's, are sent out in a timely fashion. (This position is now merged into the Web Administrator responsibilities)
  • The Web Administrator of the webpage: www.sgsmi.org creates anew, each two months, the WHAT'S NEW page on the website. They will maintain the entire webpage, keep the page updated, and keep items archived in designated pages. Rechecking periodically that all links are active and useable. They also maintain the online calendar.
  • The Director of the Facebook page shall check the site at least once weekly, and make sure that all questions are answered. They shall also make sure that the SGS logo is displayed at the top of the Fb page. and that they attend at least two board meetings per year. They will also post pertinent material at least once a week.
  • The Assistant Facebook Director assists the Director by checking the website at least once a week and answering questions, they also help to post pertinent materials, they can also come to board meeting to take notes for the Director.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP

MEMBERSHIPS - General memberships, are made up from interested parties who have had FAMILY MEMBERS who once lived in Saginaw county, Michigan. But you can live anywhere and still be a SGS member...visit a meeting and see what we do. If you come to a live meeting in PERSON we offer food and drink (sorry- just bottled water) to our meetings from April to December (exceptions are July and August, as we do not meet then)
