KATE'S EGGS

Picture

The Recipe

Deviled Peeps
We sometimes get more creative and do a zigzag design
around the middle. (this requires a bit more adult help)

Kate and the upright eggs

When my seven children were young, I often asked them to come into the kitchen and learn how to do some of the preparation for creating a meal.
I taught both the boys and the girls these important steps in independence and self-preservation, as I felt that everyone needed to know how to cook, (at least a few simple meals.) This is how my daughter Kate taught us that 'mistakes' often lead to innovation!

So, the task Kate was given was to prepare the eggs to be 'deviled.'
First you boil the eggs, then you cool them, then you peel them, then you slice them, then you dig out the yokes and then you mix the ingredients, and last you fill them. Simple yes? Well maybe not.

Kate got everything done as we normally do it, but when it came time for slicing the eggs she decided to cut them in the opposite direction, not lengthwise but across their middle. The kids all had a good laugh at her folly, as the eggs just would not stay standing. I quieted them all down
and sliced a bit off their bottoms to help level them out. Assuring Kate that they would taste just fine. But what happened next was precious.

We found these cute little 'peeps' online and for the next family holiday Kates' DEVILED PEEPS were on display. They were a huge hit and Kate was always remembered in the family for having changed the way we do deviled eggs!
